Objective To explore the value of the problem-based learning (PBL) combined with multimedia teaching in the nursing teaching in the hospital central sterile supply department (CSSD). Methods In the hospital CSSD practice, one hundred and three nursing students going to receive multimedia teaching were randomly divided by coin toss into two groups, the PBL group (n=56) and the control group (n=47), and taught with different teaching methods with or without PBL. Their overall impression, degree of satisfaction, and scores of departmental rotation examination during the practice were observed in both groups. Results The overall impression of students in the PBL group was better than that in the control group, and the satisfaction surveys showed that the satisfaction degree in the PBL group was significantly higher than that in the control group (89.29% vs 65.96%, P<0.05). There were significant differences in the total scores, scores of multiple choice questions and of non-choice questions between the PBL group and the control group (all P<0.05), but no significant difference was found in the operation qualification rate between the two groups (91.09% vs 89.36%, P>0.05). Conclusion PBL combined with multimedia teaching would be helpful to improve the learning interest and motivation, degree of satisfaction, and teaching achievements in the nursing students, and be worthy of promotion in the hospital CSSD pratice. |
