Objective To investigate the effect of progressive high-speed intermittent feeding onnutritional status and quality of life of critically ill patients. Methods A total of 118 critically ill patients treated in emergency care of a class III class a hospital in Nantong from January 2020 to January 2021 were selected as the research objects. They were randomly divided into experimental group and control group, with 59 casesin each group. The control group was fed continuously at a constant speed, and the experimental group was fed gradually at a high speed and intermittently. The nutritional status, quality of life and incidence of complications were compared between the two groups before and after intervention. Results After two weeks of intervention, the serum total protein(TP), serum albumin(ALB) and prealbumin(PA) in the experimental group was (68.37±3.03) g/L, (37.06±2.08) g/L and (255.15±33.03) mg/L respectively, which wassignificantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.05). The scores of quality of life in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups(P>0.05). Conclusions The application of progressive high-speed intermittent feeding in critically ill patients can improvenutritional status and quality of lifewithout increasing complications, which is safe and reliable.
