Objective To understand the current situation of clinical thinking ability of medical students, and to explore thecorrelation between clinical thinking ability, emergency management ability and independent learning ability, in order to provide data referencefor the adjustment and reform of medical education in the later stage. Methods An online questionnaire survey was conducted on full-timestudents in four medical universities in Anhui province.Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of medical students’clinical thinking ability, and Pearson correlation was used to analyze the correlation between medical students’clinical thinking ability, emergency management ability and independent learning ability. Results A total of 1 190 valid answers were collected in this survey, with an effective recovery rate of 92.46%.The average score of clinical thinkingability of students in four medical universities was (77.57±13.84). The differences in the clinical thinking abilityof studentswere all statistically significant in whether they had experiences in emergency courses (t=2.338, P= 0.020), whether they participated in the activities of compulsory diagnosis and treatment (t=2.965,P=0.003), academic performance(t=5.745, P< 0.001), environmental adaptability (t=16.713, P<0.001),the ability to accept new things and knowledge level (t=24.178, P<0.001), attitude towards professional technical courses (t=34.530, P<0.001),whether they reviewed on timeafter theorycourses (t=13.977,P<0.001), attitude towardsfuturemedical and health undertakings (t=6.216, P=0.002)and place of originfor medical students(t=6.261, P=0.002). The results ofmultiple linear regressionshowed that the ability to accept new things and knowledge (β:-4.144, P<0.001), the attitude towards professional technical courses (β:-3.465, P<0.001), whether they had timely review after theory courses(β:1.256, P=0.012) and the origin of place(β:-2.190, P< 0.001) were the main factors affecting the clinical thinking ability of medical students in Anhui province. The Pearson correlation analysis showed thattheclinical thinking abilityofmedical students was positively correlated with their emergency management ability and autonomous learning ability in a moderate degree(r=0.480 and 0.405). The correlation coefficient between clinical thinking ability and emergency management ability of medical students was 0.480(P< 0.05),and that between clinical thinking ability and self-directed learning abilityof medical students was0.405(P< 0.05). Conclusions The level of clinical thinking abilityof medical students inAnhui province is moderate, and the level of clinical thinking ability is positively correlated with the level of emergency management and independent learning ability. |
