Objective To evaluate the value of CT images in predicting the pathological risk grades of gastrointestinal stroma tumors (GIST) by comparing the features of CT images of GIST at different pathological risk grades. Methods The clinical data of 35 cases of GIST patients with complete pathological data, diagnosed and treated in the Binhu Hospital between Sep 2013 and Dec 2016, were collected. All patients were then divided into 3 groups according to their pathological risk grades:the low risk group of 9 cases, the medium risk group of 12 cases, and the high risk group of 14 cases. The tumor characteristics of location, size, morphology, growth pattern, whether or not cystic degeneration or necrosis, surrounding fat gap, state of invasion or metastasis, features of dynamic enhanced scan, and tumor vasculature in the CT images of GIST patients were compared among the three groups. Results There were statistically significant differences among the GIST patients of these groups in the CT features of tumor location, size, morphology, whether or not cystic degeneration, surrounding fat gap, state of invasion or metastasis, degree of arterial phase enhancement and tumor vasculature (all P<0.05). But no significant difference was found among them in the CT features of tumor growth pattern (P=0.130). Conclusion Preoperative analysis of the CT imaging signs of GIST patients would be helpful to predict their pathological risk grades of tumor and provide certain guidance for clinical operation. |
