Objective To investigate the correlation between serum homocysteine(HCY) and atherosclerosis of head and neck. Methods A total of 119 cases of atherosclerosis confirmed by head and neck CT angiography from Jan to Dec 2016 in the Second People's Hospital of Hefei were selectedand divided into twogroups, and 106 patients with stenosis of the head and neck artery were considered as experimental group, another 13 patients with no artery stenosis as control group, then the HCY levels between two groupswere compared. According to the degree of stenosis of head and neck artery, there were 28 cases in mild stenosis, 29 in moderate stenosis group and 49 in severe stenosis group. The level of HCY was compared between the three groups. Results The serum HCY level in experimental group was(17.76±15.14) μmol/L and incontrol group was(10.95±2.73) μmol/L. The HCY value of the experimental group was significantly different from the control group(P<0.05).HCYlevel in mild, moderate and severestenosis groupwas(12.77±8.05)μmmol/L,(16.01±8.39)μmmol/L,and(22.20±20.29)μmmol/L, respectively. The difference between severe and moderate stenosis group was statistically significant(P<0.05), and thatbetween severe and mild stenosis group was also statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion HCY plays a role in atherosclerosis of the head and neck. The mechanism and long-term effects of HCY on head and neck atherosclerosis need to be further studied. |
