Objective To explore the difference in second-to-fourth digit ratio (2D:4D) between schizophrenia patients and healthy people, and to analyze the correlation between digit ratio (2D:4D) and psychiatric symptoms in schizophrenia patients. Methods A total of 136 schizophrenia patients treated in Wuhu Fourth People's Hospital from July 2019 to August 2020 were selected as the patient group, and 148 healthy people who worked, studied or accompanied patients in the hospital were recruited as the control group. The digit photos of subjects were measured by Adobe Photoshop CC 19.1.3 software, and the psychiatric symptoms of schizophrenia patients were evaluated by the Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS). The difference indigit ratio between the two groups was compared, and the correlation between finger ratio and psychiatric symptoms was analyzed by Pearson correlation. Results The 2D:4D ratio of the right hand in the patient group was lower thanthat in the control group. The 2D:4D ratio of both hands in the male patient group was higherthan that in the control group, while the female patient group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The difference in 2D:4D ratio between left hand and right hand was statistically significant inthe control group, with a higher value in females than in males(P<0.05). The difference between left and right hands in the patient group was not statistically significant (P>0.05). There was no correlation between the 2D:4D ratio of both hands and the score of PANSS (P>0.05). Conclusions There is no correlation between the 2D:4D ratio and their psychiatric symptoms in schizophrenia patients. However, the 2D:4D ratio of schizophrenia patients is different from that of healthy people, which may be an indicator of schizophrenia.
